Home Improvement Agency

Home Improvement Agency

Sunderland Care and Support provide the Home Improvement Agency (HIA) on behalf of Sunderland City Council. The Home Improvement Agency is committed to helping elderly, disabled, and vulnerable people live safely, comfortably, and independently in their own home for as long as possible.

Maintaining independence at home is essential for well-being, dignity, and quality of life. The Home Improvement Agency provides practical support and advice that is tailored to meet your individual needs and can also connect you to other services that might be able to help you.

The service offers:

  • Adaptations to your home to enable access to essential facilities for people who have disabilities
  • Support to apply for a Disabled Facilities Grant to fund an adaptation to your home
  • Small adaptations or repairs to your home through the Handyperson Service
  • Energy and Heating Advice
  • Advice and assistance to help you manage your home

Further information about housing related support provided by the council can be found on Sunderland City Council Housing (opens new window) pages and in the Housing Financial Assistance Policy (opens new window).
